The village of Shirakawa-go is one of the last places in Japan to see the Gassho-zukuri style of farmhouse still constructed in the traditional manner. A Unesco World Heritage Site, the village has been maintained as a working tourist attraction and is really quite striking. We were hoping for snow, but got rain instead, the side benefit being great definition of textures and materials. I've left the colors in some of the images that I think benefit from them, but for the most part, I feel that black and white (in the form of a panchromatic conversion to appear like Fuji Neopan) really draws attention to the shapes and general feel of the place.
